 A healthy diet is simply a diet that helps you to maintain or improve your health. Food is fuel for your body. Continually putting bad fuel into your automobile will ruin your automobile. Continually putting bad fuel into your body will ruin your body.A healthy diet provides your body with essential nutrients: water, carbohydrates, essential amino acids from protein, essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals.  Most individuals meet the requirements of a healthy diet through a variety of plant-based and animal-based foods. A properly balanced diet is thought to lower health risks such as obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer.
Our guidelines for a healthy balanced diet are as follows:
  • Eat roughly the same amount of calories that your body is using
  • Increase consumption of plant foods especially fruit, vegetables, legumes, whole grains and nuts
  • Limit the intake of unhealthy fats in particular saturated fats and trans fats
  • Limit the intake of added sugars
  • Limit the intake of added salt
  • Limit the intake of processed / packaged foods, fast foods and restaurant foods
  • Eat a diversity of whole foods in a variety of colors


 The Growing Vegan Trend


Adopting a vegan diet means no meat, no fish, no eggs, and no dairy. to many this can seem dramatic. As practicing vegans for over 10 years, we have embraced this diet and we would never consider going back to consuming meat and dairy. We do not believe you have to be a vegan to eat a healthy diet but you do need to limit your animal consumption to maintain a healthy diet.


Many people become vegans for health reasons. According to the Center for Disease control, vegans tend to have lower BMIs than the average population. Vegans tend to have an average BMI of 23.6 while the average adult population has a BMI of 28.8.


If you become a vegan, you need to educate yourself in regard to a proper diet to make sure you get proper nutrition. This statement also holds true for non-vegans since many individuals eat way too much processed foods and not enough whole foods which can also result in a lack of nutrient.
